For engineers and coaches

Which channels and faults need my attention?

Four drivers come in at once and there is half an hour until the next session. You want to know which channels and faults need your attention right now, on the car and with the drivers.

PITLENS builds the reports for every driver while you are still at the first car, and shows you where to look closer in the Explorer.

MoTeC i2 and your other tools stay in charge of deep-dive diagnostics. PITLENS tells you where to start looking.

You're on the list. So we know who we're writing to: what do you do?

Reports for every driver in two minutes

Drop in the data, pick the laps, build the reports. While other programs are still loading, PITLENS is already building the reports for every driver.

One click from report to data

Every piece of information in the reports points at data. One click takes you into the Explorer to dig in with the driver. The delta between the two laps is zeroed on that section.

How the jump works

Every lap and every channel

Instead of comparing one or two laps per driver, PITLENS gives you the whole session at a glance. When you want the detail, the Explorer, the data view in PITLENS, shows custom views with every relevant channel.

The Explorer

Tyre pressures and wear

From the measured pressure build of one run, PITLENS works out the optimal cold pressure per wheel for the next stint's conditions, such as air and track temperature. That keeps the tyres in their window. There is a projection for tyre wear as well.

The tools

Live at the track: PITLENS reads new files in by itself

You name a folder, today's cars and the reports. PITLENS watches the folder, reads in every new data file by itself and builds the chosen reports. When a file arrives, the tyre pressure window for the next run opens.

Rain radar at the track

The Weather tab tells you in one line when the rain reaches the track or stops, for example “Rain in about 20 min”. Below it a chart shows the measured and the forecast rain rate over time, and you can play back the radar map. If you like, PITLENS alerts you with a sound 30 and 10 minutes before the rain. The data comes from the radar of Deutscher Wetterdienst. So the rain radar works in Germany and a little beyond its borders, and it needs an internet connection.

The technical report on the car

For the car you get the key active fault messages, technical figures and limit warnings. Plus balance clouds by speed, brake temperatures, traction and brake pressure per corner and the tyres per wheel and lap, laid out like a MoTeC table.

The engineer report

For coaches: better debriefs for your clients

Load your client's file, compare locally with their lap or a faster reference lap, and send them the report as a PDF, right at the track or from home on Monday.

The lap comparison

How PITLENS calculates

Our philosophy behind the reports and every analysis.

Laps
PITLENS splits laps at the logger's beacon. If the logger missed a crossing, PITLENS checks the distance driven and the GPS trace.
Layout detection
Every lap is checked against the length of the layout it drove. A lap on a different layout does not go into the reports.
Corners
PITLENS suggests where the corner boundaries probably are. You can adjust them by hand at any time, and every report for that circuit follows the change.
Time loss
PITLENS compares 25-metre mini-sectors to see where the laps drift apart.
Corner cost
Besides comparing the driver's fastest lap with the best lap, PITLENS also looks at the average time loss over all clean laps.
References
Besides the fastest lap actually driven, a composite lap from the best sectors or corners can serve as the reference, as can earlier data from the same circuit.
Ideal lap
The ideal lap (“Best possible” in the app) can be built from the fastest sectors, corners or mini-sectors. The finer the cut, the faster the ideal lap you compare against, so the cut is always shown.
GPS and missing channels
GPS data can be analysed in PITLENS, but it is often imprecise, which can make a line comparison difficult. If some channels cannot be read from a logger export, less data is available, and the report says which.
